Red Ribbon Times

History

The Red Ribbon Times (RRT) is a quarterly newsletter that was established in 2018 and is distributed digitally and in print. Development, design, and distribution of the newsletter is the responsibility of the Central Florida HIV Planning Council’s (CFHPC) Membership and Engagement Committee with support from the Orange County Government’s Graphics Department. The purpose of the RRT is to:

  • Highlight the achievements of CFHPC members, partners, and HIV service providers
  • Provide information on community events and Ryan White resources
  • Uplift the inspiring stories of individuals in the HIV community and CFHPC members
  • Empower others to get involved in initiatives to end the HIV Epidemic

Why is it called the Red Ribbon Times?

In 1991, a group of artists came together to create a meaningful symbol at the height of the AIDS crisis—to show support and compassion for those with AIDS and their caregivers. These artists were a part of the Visual AIDS Artists’ Caucus and what they created was titled “The Ribbon Project”, better known today simply as the Red Ribbon. – Visual AIDS

Since the 90’s the Red Ribbon has been a symbol of awareness and solidary amongst people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. In order to honor this important history the “Red Ribbon Times” was born.
